How Songbird Took Flight.
When the world shut down in 2020, I lost my career as a home health occupational therapist almost overnight. Hospitals were overflowing, home-health programs were gutted, and the work I’d built my life around disappeared. I was suddenly home, trying to figure out how to help support my family at the capacity I had before.
In the middle of that search for direction, I started paying closer attention to the small businesses around me; the cafés, restaurants, and service providers that had once kept our community humming. One by one, they were closing their doors. Without their daily influx of customers, there were no backup reserves, nothing to fall back on when things got tough. And honestly, no one ever thought it would get that tough.
They weren’t failing because they lacked passion or skill. They were failing because they didn’t have the financial clarity or systems that could sustain them through uncertainty. Watching it happen again and again lit a fire in me.

During that same season, the songbirds outside my window became my reminder that freedom and stability can coexist. As I built what would become Songbird Accounting, I found that same balance myself; the freedom to build something new and the stability of knowing it had purpose. Their calm persistence through uncertainty mirrored exactly what I wanted to give others: a sense of lift, direction, and peace of mind.
That’s how Songbird Accounting was born: out of loss, resilience, and the belief that every entrepreneur deserves to feel confident, clear, and in control of their money.
What started as a way to help our community survive became something bigger. I began seeing the same struggles in every client I met: brilliant, driven people who were building impact-driven businesses but still felt lost when it came to their numbers. They weren’t looking for another bookkeeper; they needed someone who could translate the data into direction.
That’s where Songbird found its purpose. We don’t just reconcile accounts and send reports. We help founders understand what their numbers are really saying so they can make choices that support growth, stability, and freedom all at once.
